About Mesquite
Mesquite Ranch & Stables takes pride in the fact that you can always expect a clean, well-lit, secure, and inviting facility. It's important to us that everyone, both horses and humans, feel welcome when staying with us at Mesquite. Building community is an important part of our philosophy. You can expect potlucks, camp fires and field trips when staying with us.
It’s important to note that our ranch is located near Luke Airforce Base and next door to a dog boarding facility. While we love dogs and think jets are pretty cool, they can be loud throughout the day. If you or your horse is sensitive to noise, this may be something to consider before boarding.
We are community builders.
A healthy, thriving, and sustainable community doesn't just happen, it must be built and nurtured.
Every person that has become part of the Mesquite family shares in the desire to build something together. We believe in supporting both our small ranch community as well as the larger community of Litchfield Park.
And we don’t want to forget about your family. We work hard to create a space that the whole family (friends too!) will feel welcome to enjoy. We have a relaxing lounge where you may find a community puzzle in progress, a Little Free Library for adults and kids to enjoy, or others relaxing and enjoying each others company.
Meet the Owners
Adventurers at heart.
Tonja and Troy Lesmeister have always lived somewhat of an unconventional life. One that is full of both passion and adventure. As partners together, they’ve created a life together as strong builders of community. Up until more recently, Troy and Tonja have spent the majority of their lives living in the midwest. They have raised 5 children, as biological, foster and adoptive parents, and hosted over 50 exchange students over the years.
In 2019 they started a non-profit organization, Traveling with a Purpose, where they lead service trips around the world. In 2020, they took the leap to sell their family home of 19 years in Western Wisconsin and bought a 44’ RV to travel around the US with their youngest child.
When not living in their RV, the Lesmeisters are seasoned international travelers. Troy, an airline pilot, and Tonja, a Social Worker, combined their passion for travel and community and in February 2022 they purchased the ranch which is now, Mesquite Ranch and Stables.
Firefly Hills is also owned and operated by the Lesmeister family. At Firefly Hills, they continue their passion and have created a welcoming, community-focused space where guests can experience nature and homesteading in the beautiful hills of Kentucky. Guests can bring their own RV, rent one of ours, stay in a beautifully renovated farmhouse room, or soon, experience a stay in one of the glamping tents.
